Alta Plaza Park offers gorgeous views of San Francisco, with seating and a playground to enjoy at the top of the park’s steep hill.
This park in Pacific Heights is great for the whole family. There’s a playground for the kids, a park for the dogs to play off-leash, a tennis court, a basketball court, and a grand staircase that leads to beautiful views of the city. The iconic staircase can be found on Pierce Street. For more accessible entry, a wheelchair entrance exists at Scott and Jackson.
The fenced-in playground has a nice mix of features that will appeal to different age groups. The main play structure has steps and climbing areas leading up to different levels, and several slides (spiral and double) to take kids back down to the ground. Bring sand toys for the small sandlot! Kids will love climbing the big rope dome and spinning on the mini-carousel. There are swings and standing spinning toys, too.
The climb up the hill can be steep, but the views are worth it. The lawn is a popular spot for picnics, and there are benches to sit on, too. If you want to get some exercise at the park, you can walk the paved path and take in the views, stop by the half basketball court for a pickup game, or bring a racquet to one of the three tennis courts.
There are a lot of nearby shops, restaurants and cafes around California Street in the Fillmore Street shopping district.
There are restrooms onsite, but only street parking is available (and keep in mind that street parking can be tough in this neighborhood).
