The Bird Athletic Complex has a music-inspired playground surrounded by athletic fields.

My children absolutely love playing at Bird Athletic Complex! This inclusive playground is filled with features that make it unique: a whole area filled with musical instruments, a surface made of synthetic turf, a huge climbing web, and a small field next to the playground.

Toddlers and new walkers will love this playground because of all the ramps! My children loved to run up and down them! Because the playground is ADA-compliant, there are many ramps, and in addition to being wheelchair friendly, it is also safer for grandparents than other playgrounds.

The playground is not covered and is entirely in the sun, so be sure to pack sunscreen!  Get some shade at the picnic tables. The tables under the tree are great for caregivers because you can still see most of the playground. Other shady spots can be found in the covered area by the baseball field, and across the parking lot in the small picnic pavilion.  The small field area beside the playground is also shaded, and perfect for dribbling the soccer ball, or even having a picnic!

Surprisingly, this playground is never crowded when we visit, even on the weekends.  It's an ideal place to bring scooters or bikes, with its large parking lot set back from the road. You could also bring your baseball equipment to make use of one of the several baseball fields around the playground. There is a small building with restrooms beside the playground; however, it is locked each time we visit.

We typically spend about 1.5-2 hours playing here. If you want to extend the adventure, you could walk or ride bikes to O.B. Gates Elementary, where there are several playgrounds. Another option would be driving five minutes to Central Library, a branch of Chesterfield County Public Library. The ample children's section and comfortable seating make this the perfect place to cool down and relax with your kiddos!
