Bridges that lead to heart eyes - you won't want to miss a visit to Browns Island!
I didn’t know what to expect when we pulled up to this park. The parking was easy (street parking) and the entrance looked great. We always get excited over bridges and the opening bridge is grand. Holiday bonus, they had a team of workers setting up all of their holiday lights. Can’t wait to see this once the lights are up!!
Once you cross of the entry bridge you have to walk down a number of stairs. The path is great for bikes and strollers but make sure you can carry down your stroller or bikes at this particular spot.
The Island is considered a favorite walking, running and biking area for locals and visitors alike.
While walking along the beautiful path, about .2 miles in we spotted T. Tyler Potterfield Memorial Bridge on the Richmond Riverfront. We could have spent all day on this bridge! This bridge transports you to a time in the past. The entry is filled with quotes from past Presidents, the flowing James Rives captivates your senses and when you are in the middle of the bridge over the river, it’s just you, your kids and nature. It was perfect! There are a couple of benches along the bridge to stop for a breather or stop for a picnic or snack. Keep in mind that parts of the bridge are metal and can get slippery if it’s raining.
While we have yet to visit in the summer, we understand this is a great place to cool off in the warmer months.
Parking should not be an issue and there are porta-potties through the walk.
