A popular library in Alexandria with ample parking.

The Charles E. Beatley Jr. Central Library was built in 2000 and hosts fun and intellectually stimulating events for kids nearly every day. Children can earn prizes for reading books, get homework help and play literary games here. The Parents Corner provides books that aides kids and parents as they navigate things like potty training, fear of the dark, adoption, and divorce.

For more active indoor play, Scramble Indoor Play Place is just ten minutes away. For fresh air, The Jerome "Buddie" Ford Nature Center is less than a fifteen-minute drive and is always a fun place to spend the afternoon. Hungry? Bob and Edith's Diner, one of our favorite places to eat in Alexandria, is about a ten minutes drive away. Your kids are sure to love it.

Randi Banks
Randi (Betts) Banks grew up in New York and graduated from Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut. She moved to Washington, D.C. more than thirteen years ago with her husband, Eaghmon, and they love to explore the area and seek out adventure, now with their two young children along for the ride. Growing up right near the beach, they are happiest when on or near the water, so exploring the rivers, lakes, and streams in the greater DC area is a favorite pastime for their family. In addition to serving as one of the Washington, DC area ambassadors, Randi is also the Editor in Chief and Co-founder of happyly.
