The Fanno Creek Trail is the perfect way to spend an afternoon hopping from park to park to check out all the playgrounds!
Miles and miles of paved trails with so many playgrounds sprinkled along the way set Fanno Creek Trail apart from the rest! Fanno Creek Trail has 4.5 miles of ADA-accessible paved trails that connect Fanno Creek Park, Woodard Park, Dirksen Nature Park, Greenway Park, and Fanno Creek Greenway. Whether you start at the Tigard Library and Fanno Creek Park, then work your way north, or begin with Garden Home Rec Center, there is a lot of ground to cover, and your little one will enjoy it just as much as you do! The trail is perfect for a family bike ride as the trail is away from any roads and has designated crossings for any streets you need to cross. For my fellow runners- this trail is perfect! I love loading in my toddler with all her toys and snacks to run a few miles and then ending our run at a park! There are so many parks, and most of the parks have more than one playground, so your options are endless!
Add a Coffee Stop!
One of my favorite things is to pair a coffee stop with a park hop! Luckily the Fanno Creek Trail offers more than a couple of coffee shops nearby! You can start your adventure at Symposium Coffee in downtown Tigard and walk to Woodard Park, about one mile away. Lionheart Coffee on Scholls Ferry is also a great option! The trail and the expansive Greenway Park are right behind the coffee shop, so you can start, end, or make a pit stop for a fantastic latte! There is also a Starbucks on Hall, close to the north end of Greenway Park. These coffee shops are kid-friendly and offer kids steamers and hot chocolate for about $3.
Some Insider Tips
It can get busy when the weather is nice, but the trail is so wide you can easily pass or be passed by others. During the rainy season, parts of the trail can get flooded, especially the stretch right by Scholls Ferry Road. There are always ways around the flooded section but be sure to have your phone with a GPS with you if the water forces you to walk through a neighborhood. There are portapotties sprinkled throughout the trail and a few flush restrooms. Dirksen Nature Park has a restroom, as does Tigard Library and Garden Home Recreation Center.
