Somerset West Park has a fun, newly renovated playground with good paved paths.

Remodeled between fall 2020 and spring 2021, this park located in Bethany Area, near Westview High School, is a good option to spend a couple of hours with kids who love playgrounds and riding bicycles and scooters at the same place. In addition, Somerset West Park houses a swim center with one public outdoor pool available during the summer season.

The playground area has brand new structures like swings (for babies, older kids, and ADA-friendly), wooden climbers, musical instruments, a merry-go-round, and a really fun tunnel-shaped slide on a synthetic turf hill – where kids can spend a lot of energy climbing this steep floor.

Besides that, there are basketball and tennis courts, one portable toilet, two picnic tables (none is covered), a nature area, paved paths, a large grassy area, and a busy small parking lot (especially on weekends or when the pool is open). Also, this place is easily accessed by public transportation; the buses lines number 47, 48, and 52 have routes that pass nearby.

Dogs are welcome in Somerset West Park, and close to the parking lot, there is one Dog Waste Station with bags available. Keep in mind that this place is not the best option on hot sunny days because there aren’t shaded areas or trees close to the playground. I highly recommend you bring sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, and a water bottle.

Finally, if you like relaxing or having a walk in a quiet place, I need to warn you that you can hear all the noise from Sunset HWY (26) and the heavy traffic from NW185 Avenue. All the times I’ve visited this park, I could hear ambulances and police cars running with sirens on. So, it is not the best place for babies to take a nap in strollers, but I’m sure that older kids will have a blast playing in this place.
