Enjoy handmade gelato at downtown Staunton's popular spot, The Split Banana.

When we traveled to Staunton, everyone recommended we stop for gelato at The Split Banana. I am so thankful for all the recommendations because this place was such a delightful part of our trip. The gelato shop is right in the heart of downtown Staunton, where there is lots of street parking. However, there are sidewalks, so this is a safe walk to walk with young children. Before visiting, note that the shop is not open on Mondays.

There are tons of choices for both flavors and sizes when you enter. I recommend reading over the flavors with your children to avoid overwhelming them. Further, the smallest size, "junior," is more than sufficient for young children as this handmade gelato is rich and flavorful! Other choices will be the type of cone (waffle, sugar) or a cup. The outdoor seating is so nice, and you can really take in the unique beauty of Staunton while you enjoy your gelato (or sorbet) here. Be sure to grab napkins and pack some wet wipes for this outing!

The junior size starts at $3.41, while a large is $6.54. The Split Banana also sells milkshakes. Next to The Split Banana is The Camera Heritage Museum. This is the largest camera museum open to the public in the USA and has tons of interesting artifacts, including cameras used by Jacques Cousteau! So if your family loves photography and/or history, head over to the museum after enjoying your gelato!
