Learn about President Woodrow Wilson and experience life in 1856 at the Woodrow Wilson Presidential Library and Museum

The Woodrow Wilson Presidential Library and Museum is a wonderful place to learn and be inspired. I do recommend this museum for children ages 6+, because they will have the background knowledge to make connections. Further, the World War I Trench Exhibit, with lights and sounds, could be scary for a young child, so keep that in mind prior to visiting. The museum is home to 7 galleries, which patrons can self tour. Don't miss the President's 1919 restored limosine! This was a hit with my 3 year old. There are authentic weapons and uniforms on display as well.

When you enter, ask the receptionist for a scavenger hunt, so your children can stay engaged. Be sure to remind them to walk and use quiet voices in the museum. There is a gift shop at the front of the museum, if you'd like to purchase a souvenir to remember your experience. The Museum is a National Historic Landmark. Tickets are sold on a first-come, first served basis, so arrive early.

Before and/or after your self-guided tour, take advantage of the gorgeous gardens to relax and enjoy. We spent lots of time in the gazebo with my young son, while my husband and daughter took their time in the museum. The garden is very peaceful, and a perfect spot for a snack/water break for children who may be feeling overwhelmed or just need a moment outside.
