outdoor-adventures, hikes

You will have so much active fun on 12 Mile Creek Greenway you'll want to come back over and over again.

Located in Waxhaw, this greenway is a great spot for a hike or bike ride in the woods. There is a suspension bridge across the creek and several locations to access this greenway. An easy spot to start is at H.C. Nesbit Park where you can park near the entrance of the trail. Take the trail to the right and walk to Millbridge Parkway then cross the street and the entrance is right there.

From that entrance, it’s about a half a mile to the suspension bridge that crosses the creek and the border of North Carolina and South Carolina. Once in South Carolina you enter the Walnut Creek Park segment and continue on for 3.7 miles. You will need to cross the Carrington Drive Bridge to continue on the second segment of this trail. This is an out and back trail so walk as far or as little as you want. We went for four miles total - two miles out before retracing our steps.

Parts of the trail might be ok for a jogging stroller but would definitely recommend a carrier instead. The suspension bridge is great fun and bouncy when crossing. The occupancy of the bridge is limited to twelve people at one time.

The one downside is the amount of construction happening in the adjacent neighborhood. It definitely. intrudes on some of the peaceful moments in nature.
