Adams Hill Park is a great urban park, located very close to everything you could need.
This park is definitely more urban to me than suburban. Clocking in at 13 acres, it was also much bigger than I had expected in such a busy area. This park sits firmly between the more cosmopolitan suburb of Edina, and the decidedly more 'city' feeling Richfield. I had read that this park has excellent winter sledding, and boy, it did not disappoint!! The main sledding hill was definitely big, but not so steep that the kids (or myself) were afraid to check it out. Also, just a tip for sledding here, as I tell my own kids if the hill is bigger than you're comfortable with, just walk only halfway up, and take it from there. This definitely cuts down on their anxiety. Plus, as I say, then you actually get more runs in, with less time spent walking uphill!
Aside from the rockin' sledding hill, Adams Hill also has a nice playground beyond the base of the hill. The equipment here is definitely not brand new, but interestingly, it seemed to offer its own advantages, despite being an older generation of playground options. The other moms and I all noticed that it offered a ramp system for much of the equipment, therefore being more inclusive to kids of different physical abilities. We all thought this was really a nice feature. I also noticed it was safer than some playgrounds, as the highest portions of it had few spots with cut-outs along the side where kids could fall out while running/playing. The point for me was that, even though it wasn't the newest equipment, the kids were happy, and I felt it was a good place for them to play.
While sledding here is fun in winter, if you visit in the summertime, it's an equally wonderful park for playing ball or considering the large hill, flying a kite together. There's also a fair amount of tree cover for shade breaks, which is just so great for families.
We really enjoyed Adams Hill Park, and think you will, too!
