Kids Use their Imagination at Alcova Heights Park in Arlington

Alcova Heights Park, located at 901 S George Mason Dr., feels like childhood! With a little league field, a grassy area running along a tree-lined creek, and a bridge across the water that serves as one of the access points to the play area, this space is quaint. The playground seems inspired by the bridge, as it is a large, unique toy with three separate bridge-like walkways with access points and slides at each level, ultimately ascending to a well-elevated, twisting slide. The whole contraption is ideal for burning energy as the children happily loop through the lengthy path again and again.

There is a booth-like seating area built into a little train car for some bonus imaginative play. Additionally, a modern version of a tire swing is always a big hit, as we don't see those that often. There are also additional swing sets. While not always in abundance around playgrounds, Alcova Heights enjoys a fair amount of shaded area. There are also restrooms, a picnic shelter, a basketball court and a sand volleyball court as well.

There is a sense of nature in this park, and it's tucked into a neighborhood - everyone is really friendly. There is a significant enough drop to the large boulders and rocks flanking the stream by the edge of the park, and the bridge that serves as one access point to the playground, so we suggest keeping a keen eye on your little ones.

This is a great park for a picnic, and don't forget the park toys if you plan to spend the afternoon.
