Visit the Atlanta Botanical Gardens while enjoying seasonal activities!

With a mission to “develop and maintain plant collections for the purposes of display, education, conservation, research, and enjoyment,” the Atlanta Botanical Garden does this and so much more.  Over 30 acres of sprawling gorgeousness is located in Midtown Atlanta adjacent to Piedmont Park. Not to be missed is the Canopy Walk, a 40-foot in-the-air pathway that will allow you to touch the tree tops!  The views are outstanding! There is a Children’s Garden, one of only a few in the country, that encourages kids to splash, play, and climb for hours. An edible garden and several live honeybee colonies are on-site to amaze and delight (behind glass). Take home a Venus Flytrap as your new family pet!

Popular with the locals are several programs, such as “Story Time in the Garden” or “Cocktails in the Garden,” every Thursday evening. Themes are constantly changing. Whether it’s Alice in Wonderland or Peter Rabbit, there is always something new at the South’s most extensive garden. Please note the orchid exhibit is out of this world, and at Christmas time, there is a multi-million LED light display that will make every member of your family’s jaw drop!  The Fall Family Fun festival runs each Saturday and Sunday in October, with fall-themed activities that will delight children. The gardens are closed throughout the year on Mondays.

Tickets for events book up very quickly, especially the Christmas lights. Avoid disappointment, go online early in the season, and purchase and reserve in advance. There are also options to buy 3d glasses for the lights, but in my opinion, they are not worth it for younger children. We always enjoy the lights without the glasses and are incredibly pleased with the displays. It can get very cold, and we brought blankets for the little ones in strollers to bundle up. Strollers can be bumpy in some places and small hills on the grounds. Prepare to get a workout while enjoying the gorgeous gardens during the day or if attending an evening event.
