Fresh air abounds for the whole family at Back Cove.

Need a scenic spot to get outdoors and exercise with your kids? Grab your bikes or strollers and enjoy the 3.6 mile Back Cove Trail loop in Portland. The loop trail is mostly flat and a combination of stone dust and pavement. The views are gorgeous -- you follow the trail around Back Cove, an estuary basin of water, with the Portland skyline in the background. Kids can stop to throw rocks, check out the flowers, or even search for bugs.

If you're looking to expand your workout, the Back Cove Trail connects to the Bayside and Eastern Promenade Trails under Tukey’s Bridge.

Parking is easy and convenient, with many spaces at the Preble Street Extension entrance to the trail. Portable toilets are also available.
