Badlands Indoor Play Space
5200 Randolph Road, Rockville, MD 20852
Play Place in Rockville, Maryland.
An incredible indoor space for little ones to run and play with a true "outside" feel.
Badlands is the ultimate indoor play place for kids. It is a destination for active kids of all ages, worth a drive from anywhere in the DMV. It is complete with slides, climbing structures, and open space to run. It's large and versatile enough to accommodate your whole family – especially fun and convenient on a rainy (or snowy) day because even if it is crowded, it is spacious and well-run.
What's most impressive about this indoor playground, aside from the onsite snacks and beverages available for purchase, is that it truly captures the outside feel. It is a nature-inspired play space, with rock climbing that actually resembles the real action in nature, unlike other typical versions.
We also love the music, available art spaces for creativity to shine, and so many special activities featured throughout the day.
While there is a baby area, it's small and space can get very busy, especially on rainy days and weekends. Additionally, the space is vast, so keep in mind your children may disperse. We suggest it is best for kids between 2 and 8.
The birthday parties are pricy but really well-executed and fun for the kids and adults alike. They are difficult to book because Badland's birthday parties are popular, but there is at least one television available during birthday parties (we found this most helpful during football Sundays).
For a meal before or after a visit to Badlands, Matchbox is less than ten minutes drive away (love their Brunchbox on the weekends).
Rockville Memorial Library is just over ten-minutes further from the city, but a great library if you have some time to burn. It actually made our list of favorite libraries in the DC area so it' definitely worth the trip! Hammer & Stain DIY (a fun kid-friendly craft space) is adjacent from the library if you want to make it a full day out in Rockville!
