Balboa Park is a great place to take a run!

This route will take you past hundred-year-old trees, your little one peering over the edge of the jogger to see their towering shadows as you woosh by. You’ll cover about 3 miles, starting on the northwest side of the park, on Sixth & Upas. Follow along the tree-lined walkway as you start to get a sense of just how beautiful this park truly is, you will see the giant California tower poking its head from the tree line on your left, don’t worry you’ll get up close with it soon. Once past the Lawn Bowling Club, turn left to cruise along the historic Cabrillo Bridge which leads you into the heart of Balboa Park. Stick to the road as it snakes through the Prado and heads towards the Organ Pavilion. Hang a right at the bathrooms onto W Pan American Rd and enjoy a little back road scenery with ancient trees hanging over your head. Once you see the parking area on your left, head that way and turn back towards the organ Pavilion and Prado where you will turn right, straight to the iconic Bea Evenson Fountain. Add a few extra yards by running out and back towards the Zoo to wave to the giraffes, or run back toward the Prado the way you came.

If your little adventurer needs to stretch their legs, stop by Sixth Avenue playground, it’s toward the end of your run. Looking for some post-run food? The legendary Hash House A Go Go is one block over from the start of your run on 5th Avenue and it never disappoints, where there are healthy options they also have pancakes as big as your head! If their line is too long, Swami’s is another delicious choice one block down.
