It’s easy to forget Manhattan is an island in the thick of all the concrete, which is why we love getting right up close to the waterways of Battery Park City.

It also serves up an awesome chance to enjoy the beautiful green space. This playground is popular for a good reason. With a fantastic new playground with a wide variety of climbing structures, it's a special place. For visitors and long-term residents alike, it’s a great place to relax, explore and enjoy time together. The vantage point to view the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island are fantastic too.

The playground structures include a small trampoline, merry-go-round, water play area, swings, and sandpits. Adjacent to the playground is an expansive grassy area where you can picnic. There are also games to rent, like air hockey and board games. Most are available May through October, but a few (like billiards and ping pong tables) are available year-round. This makes the spot ideal for older kids who may have outgrown playground equipment while younger siblings play nearby. (Restrooms can be found in the nearby Solaire Building.)

You can also pause to watch the birds in the Lily Pool, which has ducks and migrating birds, depending on the season. It’s a great place to spot rural waterfowl!

Stop at the Irish Hunger Memorial when you’re ready to wander the rest of BPC. One of the city's most striking and different memorials, it depicts rural Irish landscapes and stone cottages. It represents all those who came to America to flee the potato famine. And, of course, you can’t go wrong simply strolling the esplanade! Gardens line the entire path; kids can whiz along on their bikes or scooters.
