Family-Friendly Hike with Lovely Views

About 30 minutes south of Nashville is Preservation Park, which is a 200 acre park - a former grazing pasture, and site of the Battle of Thompson's Station, a noteworthy confederate victory in the Civil War.  My family (2 kids ages 4 and 5) easily did the 3.4 mile Battlefield Trail which is a loop (we went clockwise) and has some gorgeous views, well-marked trails, and balances wooded areas with open pastures.  About half way through the trail is an old barn and further on there are a couple of picnic tables on the edge of a meadow.  At the start / end, is a Tennessee Equine Hospital, where you can look but not touch several horses.

Tip: At the end of your hike, make time to go to the center of Thomspon Station (0.2 miles from the Preservation Park parking lot on Thompson Station Road right by Circa Grill) and check out the caboose on the old railroad.  It makes a nice photo opportunity.

Posted:  Dogs must remain on a leash while visiting the Park.

Posted: Horses are currently not allowed in the Park.
