BearWallow Mountain offers an easy hike with rewarding views at the summit!

Bearwallow Mountain is located about 40 minutes south of Asheville in Gerton, NC. This hike is perfect for young hikers because it is only about 2 miles round trip with beautiful 360 degree views on the summit. With 2 different ways up it’s an easy loop or out and back. After parking along the side of the road you’ll see 2 trailheads depart on either side that are well marked, you’ll want the trail to your right. From here you can either walk the gravel service road up or head through the wooden arbor for a single track trail. We love to take the single track up and the road down to mix it up a bit. Once at the top you will find a large bald perfect for lounging, picnics, frisbee, and exploring! The old fire tower and many antennas are fenced off, but there is plenty of space so that even on insanely busy days you can always get some separation from the masses.

Directions: Follow 74-E for about 12.5 miles towards Gerton. After the switchbacks be on the lookout for Bearwallow Mountain Road on your right. Turn right onto it and follow it for 2.5miles. Right when the road crests the mountain top and turns back to pavement you'll see the trailhead and parking.
