Roaming around Bicentennial Park is a lovely way to spend a sunny day. As a Nashvillian, I often overlook and forget about this park, but after my recent visit, I have a renewed love for it! It was built in 1996 to honor Nashville’s 200th birthday (thus the name - Bicentennial Park) and has a ton of history embedded in its design. There are time capsules for each county buried in the path on the northeast, a 200-foot granite map of Tennessee, a WWII memorial, views of the capitol, trees from the different Tennessee regions, and a 95-Bell Carillon.

While my 3-year-old son does not appreciate these historical features, he does love its fountains, spinning globe, excellent 1-mile scootering loop, large climbing boulders, open grassy fields, and the bells when they chime (every 15 minutes and a longer song on the hour). In the summer, kids love running through the fountains and playing in the water near the globe. There is no playground, but there is a ton of space for kids to run and experience one of Nashville’s best state parks.

Extend your visit by grabbing lunch at the Nashville Farmers’ Market, shopping for local produce and crafts in the Farm Shed, or visiting the Gardens of Babylon nursery. Be sure to also visit the Tennessee State Museum. We loved taking our food from the Farmers’ Market and having a picnic on the large grassy lawn at the park. It made for a perfect afternoon!
