One of Boise's Best Local Highlights is watching the surfers ride the waves on the Boise River!

You can access the Boise Whitewater Park by riding your bike down the Boise Greenbelt, or crossing the bridge if you were at Quinn's Pond or just parking at 34th street in Garden City. The Boise River turns into a full-blown surfer and kayakers heaven with huge waves that you can ride and everyone loves to stop and watch. It's a highlight itself so plan to stay awhile. The locals are so nice and it's fun to root for all the riders because it isn't easy to stay on the wave.

I never knew it existed until recently but all year around you will find people kayaking or surfing on these waves - it's such a sight to see! Right next to Boise Whitewater park is the new little shop called Greenbelt Market that sells drinks, snacks, sandwiches, ice cream, even sushi! They allow dogs on the patio and you can sit there and watch the surfers. Check their website or social media because on certain afternoons they do wine tastings and different local restaurants come out to offer food samples. The other day they had face painting for the kids, which was such a pleasant surprise.

Boise Whitewater Park is so much fun even if you simply stop by while you are riding your bikes down the Greenbelt or come and bring a lunch and watch the surfers for a while. Either way, it's a must while you are in Boise!
