This urban playground offers a huge array of unique climbing and playing structures.

Bossen Field Playground is a place we stumbled upon mostly by chance. We usually head to more suburban playgrounds, but there was something really fun about finding a nice, big playground in the 'big city.' There was not only a large quantity of playground equipment, but there were also some very unique structures, including an interesting geodesic climbing structure. It had hand and foot grips all over the different sides, made just specially for kiddos. Other unusual items included a small, stand-up spinning structure, and a spinning circle to stand, sit, or lay on. There were many different stand-alone structures which included the usual suspects...slides, stairs, monkey bars, and tunnels. There was also a nice teeter-totter and some gentle play items for toddlers. There were lots of traditional swings, and there was also a round circle swing with a capacity for two littles, which was fun. There were wiggly walkways and stepping stands built several inches apart.

One really unique aspect that sets this playground apart from the rest is its proximity to Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (our biggest airport here in MN). This means, of course, that the kids have the added bonus of watching many planes flying by. This was a huge thrill for the kids, and I don't blame them...it's so fun to watch airplanes soar nearby!

Parking here was plentiful, with a huge lot offered. It was a rather cold, off-season day when we visited, but I'm sure this playground probably gets quite busy in the summertime and after school. Therefore, if you don't like crowded playgrounds, I recommend saving this one for shoulder seasons or colder days. This playground does feature restrooms, which is an important bonus factor. There are also baseball and softball fields, basketball courts, a soccer field, and a wading pool in the summer.
