With construction starting on a new Brooklyn Heights Library soon (stay tuned, the nw library will be 26,620 square feet, making it the largest branch in Brooklyn, expected to open Summer 2021), interim library services are being provided at Our Lady of Lebanon Church on 109 Remsen Street in Brooklyn Heights. However, this temporary location has not in any way affected the popularity of their infamous storytimes. They host the following weekly storytimes:

Saturdays at 11 am: Storytime for birth to 5 years
Tuesdays at 1 pm and 2 pm: Babies and Books for birth to 18 months
Wednesdays at 10:30 and 11:15 am: Toddler Time for ages 18 months to 36 months
Thursdays at 10:30 am: Preschool Storytime for ages 3-5

When I visited during Thursday's Preschool Storytime, the small children's section was teeming with toddlers and caregivers, all reading books and chatting and waiting for storytime to begin. Promptly at 10:30, the children's librarian read names off a list and ushered the guests into a private storytime room where they could be heard reading and singing.

The storytimes at the Brooklyn Heights Library are some of the most popular in all of Brooklyn and book up quickly. The programs all require online registration, which opens 24 hours in advance, and fill up within hours at most. But the good news is that you don't have to hold a Brooklyn Public Library card to register online.

Renee was born in rural Maine and spent her childhood days playing in the woods and tending to her family's farm animals and large garden. She's spent the last 20 years far from her rural roots, living in large cities both in the US and abroad. Her family -- including her two daughters, age 6 and 10 -- just recently located to Brooklyn, New York after spending two years living abroad in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Renee looks forward to exploring and discovering all of the active, family-friendly activities that Brooklyn has to offer!
