Just north of Highway 100 across from Edwin Warner, the Burch Reserve opened about two years ago. It’s much quieter than the rest of the Warner Parks and while it was lovely on a September Saturday, I’ll bet it's even more gorgeous in the fall. What struck me is how few people were on the trail, how clear and well kept the trails were, and how many lovely flowers (purple thistles), butterflies, and old growth trees there were (that provide tons of shade).
At the start, you'll walk under a tunnel that takes you under the CSX railroad tracks, and then you'll head on up into the woods where you'll reach a spot where you can head right or left. We headed left (counter-clockwise) so that we could take on most of the elevation towards the beginning of our hike. There are a couple of "spurs" off the main section of the trail - we explored both, but I don't really feel you are missing anything if you choose to pass on those spurs.
Quick tips: 3.0 miles, it’s a loop, ample parking, port-a-potty onsite, mostly shaded, go counter-clockwise, ~400 feet elevation
Note: no dogs and no trail running so as not to disrupt the habitat.
