A gorgeous and memorable experience in Montauk for the whole family.

Originated in 1942, this former military base is a national historic site that is no stranger to conspiracy theories.  The popular Netflix series, “Stranger Things,” is rumored to be loosely based on Camp Hero.  With that being said, the park features breathtaking Atlantic Ocean views, luscious forests, historical relics, and a widespread amount of trails available for hiking, biking, and horseback riding.

I highly encourage families to visit Camp Hero because I believe it can foster different takeaways for all members of the family.  The history which may cater more to older children and adults is incredibly fascinating, while the hikes and views are just outright stunning for people of any age.

The park spreads 754 acres, allowing families ample room for privacy during their hikes.  There is an $8 entrance fee required upon driving into the park.  Most of the park can be accessed by car, and there is parking along the road allowing you to be able to get out and start exploring on foot wherever you feel compelled to do so.  Your furry family members are allowed, as long as they are leashed!  Picnic tables are spread out around the park where you and your family can sit and enjoy a nice lunch!

I highly recommend Camp Hero and would encourage families to take the trip.  I have found children to be completely taken by the park, and then go home wanting to learn more about the rumored history.

**The hikes to the bluffs are a MUST, especially during sunset!
