Itching to get out and explore nature in a fun way? Take a canoe trip on the Harpeth River! Just a 30 minute drive due west from Nashville on I-40, the Foggy Bottoms Canoes offers a variety of trips that are perfect for kids. Recently, my husband and I took our two daughters, ages 3 and 4, on a two-hour self-guided canoe adventure on the Ball Park Route, which included a 10-15 minute bus ride to the drop-off point. We then canoed for about fives miles and ended just shy of our rental site where we were instructed to pull over. Thanks to the slight current, paddling wasn't too tiring and there are several rocky beaches where you can pull over and have a rest, snack, or short swim. With only one canoe, we didn't have room for our dogs, but we saw several furry friends on the river.

For $37 we rented one canoe for all us. The Foggy Bottoms staff was really friendly and handled all the canoe-carrying, which we were super thankful for with the kiddos. All we had to do was carry our backpack of snacks and water and our paddles. Though we brought our children's life jackets from home, we did notice there were life jackets of all sizes on hand at the outfit. Overall, it was a pleasant way to spend a morning and the kids loved it.
