Carolina Brothers Pit Barbeque serves North Carolina style BBQ favorites in a historic building right next to the W&OD Trail.

The building used to be the Partlow General Store in Old Ashburn and offers a rare glimpse into how Ashburn looked before housing developments were built starting in the 1980s.

Carolina Brothers features seating both indoors and outdoors, all picnic type tables with a roll of paper towels for easy bbq clean up! There are restrooms inside and a parking lot right next to the building. We did not see a changing table inside the small, single-stall restrooms so if you have a baby with you be prepared with a travel mat for your car.

Place your orders and pay at the counter, meals can be made to go or for dining in. The menu regularly features pork and chicken bbq sandwiches, hot dogs and ribs, with brisket offered on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Sides are macaroni and cheese, baked beans, potato salad, coleslaw, and green beans. A huge slice of cornbread is $1.00 and was definitely big enough to share. Homemade desserts are by the register and there are fountain drinks available, but cold and freezer cases also offer a big selection of bottled drinks and frozen treats.

There is no specific kids meal but a very kid-friendly hot dog with a side of macaroni and cheese will run $5. The sides portions are very generous so a single side of macaroni and cheese could make a great kids meal on its own if kids are not barbecue fans. Everything we tried was delicious and we can't wait to come back! Carolina Brothers also offers catering and party packs for pick up for throwing your own bbq feast at home!

Our kids also enjoyed the way the restaurant was decorated! Tons of pig-themed country-style decorations surround the shop and they enjoyed looking at them after they ate.

Being right next to the Washington and Old Dominion Trail means you can either build up a great appetite before your meal or burn some calories after you eat. There is a large parking lot specifically for trail users next to the restaurant. The trail is bike and stroller-friendly and also perfect for walkers and runners.
