Literacy Fun at Central Library In Chesterfield

The Central Library, a branch of Chesterfield County Public Library, has so much to offer families. To start, we love the large children's section. Books are labeled on the spine, according to the topic. For example, some categories are: ready for K, animals, winter, Halloween, and more. It is so nice to be able to let my children find their own books based on this organizational system. There is also an entire cart of new (to the library) books. If you have a newish reader or are working on reading fluency, check out the VOX and Wonderbooks. These fun reads can be found in the audiobooks section. The kids really like these because they listen to the book simply by pushing a button inside the front cover!

Also, in the children's section is ample seating. It is so comfy back here! I love cuddling up and reading to my kids here. There are always coloring pages and crayons on the tables for your little artists. If you have an older child, he or she may use the computer, where there is a catalog system, specifically for children. My eight-year-old loves to use this and find books suitable for her interests and reading level. She also loves to find CDs, usually Disney princess soundtracks, in the CD section that is within the children's section.

The Central Library hosts many events, including storytimes, Early Literacy story walks, a fairy trail, and more. All of these programs can be found on the CCPL event calendar.

After checking out our books, we love to play at Bird Athletic Complex playground, five minutes away. It is an ADA-compliant playground with musical instruments!
