Chadwick's exudes a classic local vibe and is pleasant for parents and kids alike.

The restaurant has that old school pub charm, almost like you're in England or Ireland. That said, by no means does it feel like a bar - it's as comfortably family-friendly as it gets, right down to the understanding approach to kid gear. They are happy to accommodate high chairs, or even sleeping infants in their strollers at the table, by providing large tables for your group. This isn't always true in historic districts and downtown areas as square footage is generally an issue, but Chadwick's consistently makes you feel right at home.

The food always hits the spot and there is quite a range, including a nice variety of reasonably priced kids items. The ribs are very popular as are the crabcakes, and the burgers are half price on Mondays. Additionally, Chadwick's serves brunch on the weekend, and I love the Crab Benedict.

You can't beat the location in our opinion, which is probably why the restaurant has been there for decades. Chadwick's is across from a paid parking lot and while just a short walk to the waterfront it's slightly set apart from the busiest part of Old Town at the foot of King Street.

After your meal, explore a bit before grabbing ice cream at Pop's Old Fashioned Ice Cream Co. right on King Street and take your cones for a walk on the waterfront. Windmill Hill Park Playground is about a five-minute walk in the other direction if you want the kids to burn off some energy before you go shopping in Old Town. For more ideas for what to see and do in the neighborhood, check out our Neighborhood Favorites: Old Town Alexandria.

The closest metro station is King Street-Old Town.
