For such a small city, Beaufort packs its punch with gorgeous vistas, antebellum homes, friendly restaurants, and a lovely waterfront park. The city is located on Port Royal Island, one of South Carolina’s coastal Sea Islands. It makes the perfect road trip from Savannah (~1 hour away) or Charleston (< 2 hours away) - or even an afternoon stop between the two larger cities. It's quaint, quiet, and simply stunning.
Start your visit at Henry C. Chambers Waterfront Park, which overlooks the Beaufort River and the Woods Memorial Bridge. There are swings sized for the whole family to enjoy the view and plenty of space to run around. There's an ice cream shop on hand, which is delightful for a hot day.
Take the time to head up Charles street to Craven Street, dubbed as one of the prettiest streets in South Carolina to stroll and admire the Spanish moss and old architecture. My kids loved spotting the horses that drive the carriage tours (similar to those in Charleston).
