For The Explorer In All of Us Chapel Island Awaits!

Chapel Island is great for little explorers with a curious mind.  The island is situated just west of the Great Shiplock Park (you can see both from the parking lot) and provides over 5 acres and a rich history to learn about.  The best way to access the island is by parking in the Great Shiplock Park parking lot, there are adequate parking spots available but not a lot for a busy day.  To gain access, cross over the footbridge of the canal and you will see signs outlining features for Chapel Island and information on the history of the island to include the home of William R. Trigg’s shipyard.  There is an area to the left that provides access to the water and the ability to fish from!

There is information on the native wildlife to observe with the kids and a half-mile of winding, wide, and flat single-track for hikers and bikers, an accessible boat ramp, and a non-motorized boat launch.  It is a beautiful walk in the fall and will provide great shade in the summertime.
