Take a trip out of the city of Nashville up toward the Kentucky border to enjoy the perfect night in the backcountry.

This might just be Tennessee’s best-kept secret, so if you haven’t been to Charit Creek Lodge, we're not sure what you're waiting for.  If you're looking for the right spot to ease into backcountry overnights – this is the perfect place.

The hike, while short (only a mile), is largely downhill and very steep in some parts, which can be challenging for young kids. Dogs are allowed as long as they're leashed. For the "glamping" part, this is a no-tents-required site with super clean rooms – you don't even need to bring linens, while the bathrooms have real flushing toilets. However, there's no electricity or cell service onsite (perfect for those really looking to get off the grid!)

For $5 per dog per night, your furry friend can stay at the lodge with you and they’ll even provide dog beds for comfort. The food is equally amazing. (Note: Dinner is served promptly at 6 pm nightly). And there are tons of activities – from horseshoes, cornhole, and firepits to board games and books in the dining hall – to keep everyone entertained. Truly, the atmosphere is lovely and I kept wishing we could stay longer. Go!

We recommend packing towels, along with swimsuits and water shoes.
