Chicago Architecture Tour
465 N McClurg Ct, Chicago, IL 60611
Take a river tour of Chicago.
An outdoor cruise along the Chicago River, take in the history of the area on the water in nice weather.
If the weather is nice, nothing beats an outdoor cruise along the Chicago River. It’s a little pricey for adults but likely worth the splurge. Note, kids under 6 are free! The tour is about 90 minutes long and starts at 465 N McClure. It gives you a good sense of both the history and architecture along the river and keeps you mostly looking up at all of the beautiful buildings and gaining an appreciation for the different time periods and styles.
The day we went was perfection – practically cloudless and 70 degrees in mid-August.
There are a number of companies hawking their version of the River Tour and I’m sure they do vary a bit. Like anything, your experience can depend heavily on the particular guide you get and ours was the right combination of knowledgeable, funny, and informative.
However, the most enjoyable and memorable was being with the family outside in the lovely weather and enjoying the outside.
If you get hungry or thirsty, the Chicago Tours version includes free cookies, lemonade, and water – anything stronger (wine, beer) is for sale. The bathrooms were fine.
Tips: Tickets can – and often do – sell out so buy them online in advance. Arrive early (30 minutes recommended) to get the best seats on the top outdoor section.
