The Children's Museum is Home to Interactive Learning, a Playground, a Water Table and Rotating Exhibits.

Regardless of season, or weather, the Children's Museum of Richmond provides activity, hands-on learning and interactive fun daily!  This staple in Richmond, Virginia's activity rotation for little ones, is known for its summer splash pad, special events like the Legendary Santa's visit, and being a phenomenal place to let your child burn some energy when outdoor play isn't an option.

When we visit this location we park right in front.  As soon as you go through the walkway, children love to hear the echo and see the sculptures and murals.  CMoR does an excellent job of infusing art into play.  As you go through the front walkway, you will see the picnic pavilion on your left.  There is no food or drink permitted inside the museum, but this picnic area offers a great way to take a play-break and have a quick snack or yummy lunch.

Exhibit highlights:

Down on the Farm, for ages 3 and under has a small slide, several board books, interactive animal activity and learning about animal noises.

Sliver Diner: My children love to "make" and "serve" food at this diner. We pretend to turn on music with the vintage jukeboxes at each table, too.

Wegman's Grocery: My 4 year old likes for me to shop while he is the cashier.  He loves how the register actually opens, and the food "beeps" as he rings it up, just like the real grocery store.

Art: My daughter loves the art station.  There are tons of recycled materials, paints, markers, crayons.  The project is totally up to your child, but there are ideas provided for inspiration.

Ambulance/Hospital: Both of my kids LOVE to drive the ambulance while the other is the "patient". They stop at the hospital and take x-rays, vitals and more!

Outside there is a new, state of the art, playground with several ADA compliant features.  My kids love the musical instruments, the slides and climbing a pretend mountain.

Water Table: I recommend saving this for last, as your child may get soaked.  The kids love spinning the water wheel, learning about precipitation and more while they play with small balls in the huge water table.  Bring a change of clothes, just in case your little one gets drenched!

The museum tends to be more crowded during the winter and inclement weather days.  We opt to purchase tickets online in advance to avoid waiting.  I also suggest buying tickets for the carousel in advance ($2).  It runs every hour for 15 minutes, and it's a good way to take a break and the kids LOVE it so much.

There are bathrooms on both sides of the entrance.  There is a family bathroom inside the Down on the Farm exhibit.  There's also a nursing room in this exhibit.
