Located in a renovated fire and rescue station from 1962, Commonwealth Brewing Company is a great spot in the Chesapeake Bay area of Virginia Beach.

There is a beer garden, an airy tasting room, spaces for private events, and a barrel cellar for storing hundreds of barrels of beer to be aged. Commonwealth offers an expansive beverage menu on tap of all of their own original creations. They have everything from high gravity IPAs to gluten-free hard seltzers to beer slushies. Their various fermentation processes are evident in their wood-fired Neapolitan pizzas as well. Using high-quality in-house-made ingredients elevates their pizzas even more!

One of the most fun parts about Commonwealth is their events schedule with rotating food trucks. Every month they host a Bluegrass, Jazz, and now a Reggae Brunch. Each brunch features live local music with special pizza and food truck menus. There is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating as well as green space for the kiddos to run around and dance! Check their website or social media for more information on events, their beers, and pizzas.

For all you runners out there, you can join their Common Run Club, which meets every month on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays at 6 pm for a 6:15 pm run. It is free, open to all, and you get a $1 beer upon returning to the brewery!

All of their cans have funky and cool designs that feel like art themselves. The laid-back vibe, fun atmosphere, and feeling of community are some of the best parts of this spot! There are also very colorful, and cool murals painted all around the space. Commonwealth Brewing is dog-friendly, so bring the pup along to enjoy the family fun!

Natalie Proctor is what some would call a “Southern transplant” in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. She grew up in Memphis, Tennessee before attending the University of Arkansas to pursue a degree in advertising and public relations with a minor in marketing logistics. Natalie attributes her love of the outdoors to her parents always encouraging her to have a deep appreciation for nature and all that the world has to offer. As a family, they spent many years growing up going on camping trips, skiing, rafting, and traveling together. While Natalie loves the seasonal lifestyle in Jackson, she was ready to become a part of something bigger and challenge herself. She found Happy Active Family at the perfect time, upon meeting Caitlin and Thomas, and strives to help other families spend meaningful time together, just as she has been able to with her own.
