The perfect spot to bike, scooter, run, and play!

Cornelia Fort Airpark is the perfect spot to bike, scooter, run, and play. It operated as a private airport from 1944-2011 and is now a part of Shelby Park in East Nashville. The airpark offers a few unique experiences that make it a must-visit stop for kids and adults. There is a small, recently built playground, an outdoor workout area (which is covered by a shade structure), a 1.25-mile loop (the old runway), occasional cow sightings as the park borders a farm, and a path to connect to the Shelby Bottoms Greenway.  It is also home to the Cornelia Fort Pickin' Party that typically runs in the fall. Be on the lookout for this run event in 2021.

This is a very popular spot for cyclists and runners as they do speedwork on the runway, and it’s also a popular spot for families. The large flat loop is perfect for kids learning how to scooter, bike, run, etc., and there is also a large paved area in front of the playground for kids to skate around. The airpark is where my son learned to scooter and bike and is also the first place I took the kids running after the birth of my second child.  On sunny cool weekends, it can be difficult to find a spot to park and you may have to park down the road.
