A Seasonal I-65 Stop off on with a 30 Foot High German Nativity Platform
Cullman, Alabama has German Roots and, in 2019, the small city decided to invest in a classic German nativity platform to celebrate that heritage. The platform is over 30 feet high, it actually spins, and is set up just off the main street in downtown Cullman. The whole downtown area was decorated very cutely for the holiday season but the nativity platform is definitely a highlight. I wouldn't drive too far to see it, but it makes for a worthwhile stop if you are driving through I-65 during the holidays.
From Al.com, "The Weihnachtspyramide (pronounced vine-ocks-peer-uh-meed-ah) is a turning, wooden, carousel-like decoration that is typically, in a smaller form, hung from ceilings or set on tables. Cullman’s oversized Weihnachtspyramide was commissioned from a German company Erzgebirgiisehe Holzkunst Gahlenz by the Cullman City Council and Cullman Parks, Recreation and Sports Tourism."
The town also hosts the Cullman Christkindlmarkt, our very own Christmas market! Check annually for the dates.
