A unique outdoor adventure that is great for all ages!

Daniel Boone’s Cave State Park is a fun state park. With 100 acres of secluded woods, the park has trails, picnic areas, river fishing, a disc golf course, and a monument. The cave is really a small cavern where Daniel Boone and his family hid. The cavern is fun to climb in and imagine what life would be like living there in those times. It can be accessed down a trail or down steps made by the park. From the cavern, there are several trails to follow. Most of these trails are rated easy to moderate and would be good for all ages. Some of the trails were poorly marked and muddy after some heavy rain. Make sure you take a picture of the map before hitting the trails to make sure you are staying on the right path. The bugs were pretty bad during the summer rains so consider hitting this trail during the cooler months. Forty-six acres if the park are designated as a Natural Heritage Site and are host to a number of wildflowers normally only found in the Appalachian Mountains. You will also find North Carolina's prized Eastern Cottonwood tree that is 169 feet tall and the trunk is around 16 feet around. This area is known as a stopping ground for migratory birds in the spring and fall so bring your binoculars when you take a hike.

Daniel Boone's State Park has one outdoor shelter that can be rented out. This picnic area has tables and grills and a view of the river. The park also has two primitive campsites that can be rented as well. One site has four camping pads while the other has eight camping pads. To rent the shelter or a campsite, call the parks office at 336-752-2322.

There is a canoe/kayak access trail from the parking lot to the river, to make it easier to launch or carry out from the river. Do note however that the park is only an access point and not an outfitter or shuttle service. If you plan to leave your car, then you will need a parking pass and park in the designated area. Please let the park staff know if you have any questions before you start your adventure.

Daniel Boone's State Park also has a nine-hole disc golf course and is open during park hours. Disc Golf disc are available from the Park attendants. Disc must be returned to the office after the completion of your game. If disc are lost or damaged, there will be a $10 fee.  weather.

Once you are done hiking, have a picnic at the shelter or head down to Salisbury for good local eats and treats.
