Dorothy Ann Bakery & Cafe has been an institution in the Twin Cities for 65 years!

Yes, you read that right..this delightful bakery has been a revered part of Twin Cities culture for 65 years. Dorothy Ann Bakery is a second-generation, family-run business, and only a really special place would remain open so long, of course. And special is exactly what this place is...I would actually call it magical. The girls' eyes nearly popped out of their heads when they first walked through the door. The first thing I noticed after we stepped over the threshold was the delicious aroma of a really wonderful bakery. It immediately imparts a sense of nostalgia the instant you enter. Then, I heard "oooohs" and "aaaaahs" from the girls. I swear, it was almost like they had arrived at Disneyland, which I suppose a really great treat shop is like for young kids.

The bakery had an unbelievable display of the most beautiful gingerbread houses I've ever seen, all handmade with love by their exclusive baking team. These houses were incredible! It was masterful artwork, and I can only imagine how beautifully they must create special cakes for weddings and other joyous occasions.

The kids were almost overwhelmed by the beautiful assortment of edible art in the form of cupcakes, cookies, and designer cake pops. All were beautiful, and very reasonably-priced, as well. In fact, I was surprised at how reasonable the prices were. The hygiene protocols here were excellent, as well, as you'd expect from an institution. There was sanitizer available inside the front door, and everything was kept spotless.

The girls both settled on a special cookie as their treat and they were really delicious! We would definitely visit this very special bakery again. After picking up something special from Dorothy Ann's Bakery, head over to nearby Ojibwe Park for some outdoor fun!
