Eisenhower Park offers acres of green space, waterways, playgrounds, gardens, and so much more.

Eisenhower Park is a 930-acre recreation area in Westbury, NY, and there is a wealth of activities you can do here with kids. For stroller runners, paved trails meander throughout the park with an even surface and no hills; that makes it the perfect smooth terrain for a sleeping baby! If you’re up for something adventurous, check out the mini-golf or the free summer concerts in the evenings. But for the easiest, free entertainment, head to parking lot #4 and spend some time at the playground.

There are several things that the playground here at Eisenhower does exceptionally well. The first is that it is thoughtfully designed by Let All The Children Play (LATCP) for children of all sensory and physical abilities. Most areas and features can accommodate children in wheelchairs; there are accessible swings in both the toddler and big kid sections, and other thoughtful elements abound.

The second stand-out feature of the two-acre playground is a section for even the tiniest tots, and I do mean the tiniest! Here, even my 6-month-old can take a whoosh down an itty-bitty slide here, and one- and two-year-olds will happily toddle in the pretend car or the “treehouse” climbing area. Play areas for bigger kids fill out the remainder of the two acres.

Directly in the center is a kid-favorite: a wobbling bridge that’s just wobbly enough to be a trhill. When children reach the end, make sure they jump onto the nine squares on the pavement, each playing a different musical note. Perhaps their little feet can even compose a tune! There is also a sand play area (bring your own bucket and shovel), rotating bucket swings, an ocean-themed see-saw, and more.

Parents appreciate the ample amount of shade and the numerous benches and picnic tables, which makes it easy to stop for lunch or a snack.

Accessible restrooms with changing tables are located directly on-site, and parking is free. This playground is a win for all!
