Kids will have wild fun in Horse-Drawn Carriages!

Here's a fun, unique adventure you've probably never embarked on before. Take the family on an outdoor horse-drawn carriage ride through the Elk Refuge. Well-informed, friendly guides will tell you the animal's history as you get paraded through this beautiful, protected landscape. This is a great opportunity to teach kids about the wildlife that winter here and get family photographs like never before.

Upon entering the Jackson Hole Greater Yellowstone Visitor Center, kids will scamper with glee towards the lifelike animals stationed throughout the quaint two-story building. Follow the trail of photographs, murals, and educational tools up to the second floor and walk the raised boardwalk all the way to a beautiful viewpoint overlooking the refuge itself.

These kid-friendly sleigh rides depart every 20-30 minutes, and an announcement will be made so everyone knows to head down to their bus. Reservations are not required but are recommended during peak season. Be sure to pack warm clothes for your kids and bring a camera. They do offer blankets just in case.

Emily Coleman
Emily Coleman is a Jersey girl born and raised who caught the outdoor bug upon moving to Vermont to pursue a degree in Adventure Education and Environmental Studies from Green Mountain College. She spent most of her years before college deeply entrenched in the world of competitive cheerleading before discovering a passion for outdoor sports including mountain biking, white water kayaking, bikepacking, backpacking, slacklining, rock climbing, and skiing. Having been surrounded by children her entire life in her mother's daycare, she always had a strong affinity for kids. She moved to the mountains of Jackson Hole after graduating to coach for the local Kayak Club during the summers and nanny in the winters. Becoming a part of the Happy Active Family team felt like the perfect collision of her passion for building strong community bonds and encouraging an outdoor lifestyle.
