Falls Lake is a great place for an afternoon escape or a camping getaway with your family.
Falls Lake State Recreation area is home to over 300 campsites and 5 swim beaches. The lake offers hiking, camping, boating, fishing, swimming and so much more. With 14.3 miles of trail open to single-track mountain biking, the park has 3 loop trails for all levels of riding. The Falls Lake trail is over 50 miles for hiking along the shore and goes all the way to the Eno River.
If you are looking to camp in the area this is your spot! You have the option to tent, trailer or RV camp at one of several campsites, many of which offer water and electric hook-ups. Each campsite has a picnic table, outdoor grill and lantern hook. If you are planning on bringing your own motorized boat you can head over to the Rollingview Marina where they have launching, slips and gas. This is a fun way to feel like you are on vacation if you want to get out of the city for a day!
If a quick day hike with the family is what you are looking for I would suggest the Shinleaf Point Trail. The two-mile round-trip hike leads you to the end of Shinleaf peninsula with beautiful lake views along the way.
