Federal Hill Playground in Baltimore offers the best views in the city!

Federal Hill is an approximately 10-acre park located in Downtown Baltimore City on the south shore of the Inner Harbor. The park is accessible from Battery Avenue via steep stone stairways with one street level walkway on the southeast corner of the park at the end of Warren Avenue that can more easily accommodate strollers, wheelchairs, and those who simply don’t feel like climbing all those stairs.

At the top of the hill you’ll find a field and large playground with equipment for both older and younger children. The area, however, is enclosed by fencing that prohibits dogs. Your four-legged family members are more than welcome along the walking paths and overlook, though.

The paved walking path that encircles the playground and field is tree lined and equipped with benches that provide an outstanding view of the Inner Harbor and its many attractions such as the National Aquarium, the Maryland Science Center, the American Visionary Art Museum and loads of shops and restaurants. Along the path you’ll find a bit of history by way of monuments, statues, and even some canons!

Unfortunately, there are no bathrooms at Federal Hill Park so be prepared before you venture out. Street parking is available with a posted 2 hour limit with the exception of neighborhood permit holders. I’d recommend visiting on a weekday sometime between morning and evening rush hour, if possible, to avoid having to compete for parking, however we’ve managed to locate nearby spots on the weekends without too much frustration.

This park is a great spot to visit during a day out with the family not only for its value as a sightseeing destination but for its proximity to the many amenities that surround it. Pack a lunch and eat on a bench with the best view in the city or walk down the hill and visit one of Federal Hill’s great restaurants and you’ll be sure to plan a future visit.

Our work in Baltimore is truly a family affair. Husband and wife, Matt and Katie, work together to head up our ambassador team in Charm City. Katie is a Maryland native and has lived in the state her whole life. She moved to Baltimore in 2007 after graduating from the University of Maryland, College Park with a bachelor's degree in early childhood education. She has been working in the field of early childhood education as a teacher and family coach for the past 12 years. Katie also holds a Masters of Education in Literacy from Loyola University. She is passionate about giving kids and families the knowledge and tools that they need to thrive. Matt grew up in the Highlandtown neighborhood of Baltimore. As a city native, Matt is a great resource on all that the city has to offer. After months of helping Katie explore the city for her role at a Happy Active Family, he decided to put his love of writing to use and officially come on board as an ambassador. Matt and Katie have two girls, ages 5 and 7. They spend their weekends camping, hiking, or exploring other hidden gems in their area. Tap into their insider knowledge by downloading the app today!
