The downtown Charleston peninsula is less than five square miles in total, yet it has nearly a hundred restaurants to choose from.  The fact that the peninsula is so small means that no matter where you are, you’re not far from the water. Yet of the hundred-ish restaurants downtown, only two of them are actually on the water, and only one of those two serves fresh, local food with a welcoming atmosphere.. Fleet Landing. Situated in a retired naval building right on the Charleston harbor, patrons of Fleet Landing can lounge on the patio for lunch or dinner and enjoy a fresh catch of fish or shrimp while taking in views of the Ravenel Bridge, Fort Sumter and more!

Being one of the only places on the water, you can imagine that Fleet Landing is quite busy, especially in the summer.  I recommend making a reservation for your visit (especially at dinner) in order to avoid a wait. You can do so online through OpenTable or by calling the restaurant directly.  There is a free parking lot in front of the restaurant as well as a paid garage across the street.

The menu highlights local seafood and includes items such as crab dip, oysters, fried seafood platters, large salads, and fresh catch filet of various local fish. Non-seafood options include a rib-eye steak and chicken piccata.  The children’s menu includes fried shrimp, grilled cheese, chicken fingers and pasta all ranging from $6-$8.

Tip: Visit Fleet Landing’s recipe webpage to make their classics at home! (http://fleetlanding.net/recipes/)
