Cool Off at This Park During the Summer with Shaded Playgrounds and a Splash Pad.

Located in Scottsdale, northwest of Phoenix, Florence Ely Nelson Desert Park is a small 9-acre park featuring a playground, spray pad, botanical nature trail, full basketball court (lighted), four drop-in ramadas, and a reservable multipurpose room. The playground area has two play structures, a swing set, and natural play spaces. The first play structure, geared toward elementary age, has several slides, climbing, steps, bridge, and interactive play.

The second play structure, geared towards preschool age (3 - 5), has slides, climbing, and steps. Both play areas have large awnings, which are great for shade. The swing set has both traditional and baby swings. The spray pad has large concrete balls that spray and mist water. The area around the pad has poured-in rubber, and the center has sand. To start the spray, you push a button, however, at this particular location, the water does not stay on long. This is a fantastic way to cool off in the summer when playing at the park.

There are plenty of places to have a picnic with four drop-in ramadas throughout the ground. There are also picnic areas along the nature trail. There is a small desert botanical nature trail with interpretative signs about the area.

If you like coffee, there is a Starbucks in the shopping center before the park. This is a perfect pick-me-up before hitting up the park. Check out Florence Ely Nelson Desert Park for your next family adventure. It's a great park to let off some steam between shopping. Overall this park is great for children ten and younger.
