Learn All About this Civil War Battleground While Enjoying Views of Williamson County!
If you've visited Pinkerton Park (and its Tinkerbell Playground), you may not realize that important history is just behind the trees. Fort Granger - an important site during the Civil War - is up the hill and is easily accessible on a trail from Pinkerton Park. There is a wooden boardwalk with a view of the Harpeth River and the earthenworks used for battle are really well preserved (do not climb on them to keep them in tact).
Heading there from Pinkerton Park, head north and stay toward the left of the park. You'll see a clearance in the brush and trees that leads up via some rocks to a wooden boardwalk. Information signs point out the important history of the place. My kids enjoyed running around up there and looking out at the views and hearing about the history. The trees are also old and beautiful and provide a lot of shade. The great news is that after you head up to the Fort (only about 0.7 miles round trip), you'll have the playground to enjoy!
Note: You can either walk from Pinkerton Park or park on the other side, more directly at the Fort. If coming from Pinkerton Park, you will be unable to take a stroller up the rocks and stairs of the boardwalk.
