A rewarding hike to a beautiful waterfall.

Foster Falls is an ~80-foot pristine waterfall located just past Tracy City and only about a 20-minute drive from Monteagle.  I love this waterfall because it's beautiful and reasonably accessible with about a 1-mile round trip hike to the base of the falls and back.  It's a fantastic reward for such a short hiking distance.

From the carpark, you'll head to the trail past some restrooms, a pavilion, and picnic tables.  The overlook where you can see the falls in the distance is only about 0.3 miles from the carpark on a newly constructed wooden platform.  While the view there is nice, the real reward is hiking an additional 0.4 miles down to the base of the falls, where you can have an unbelievable view of the falls and the pool at its base.  The 0.4-mile trail is steep and is rocky.  With a little patience, however, most hikers will be able to manage.  There are stairs in some places, but for the most part, you will need to use your hands and take your time.  While it is not 'difficult', hiking poles may help.  However, my four-year-old managed it fine.  Once you are mostly down, you will cross a creek via a suspension bridge to the base of the falls.

Near the falls is a campground with 26 campsites; amenities include a bathhouse with heated showers and flush toilets, a picnic table and a campfire ring at every site.  All camping and/or the pavilion at the parking lot are open year-round and available by reservation by visiting https://tnstateparks.itinio.com/south-cumberland or calling South Cumberland State Park Visitor Center at 931-924-2980.

Note: slippery rocks and fast-moving water can be extremely dangerous.  Do not climb, stand on, swim near, or jump from any waterfall.

After you visit, drive 20 minutes to Monteagle for lunch at Mountain Goat Market.
