To learn about the city of Pittsburgh quickly and from a unique vantage point, jump on one of the Gateway Clipper boats!

The Gateway Clipper Fleet is comprised of 5 boats of varying types and sizes, from a 212-foot-long barge to a 120-foot long traditional paddlewheel riverboat. Each boat has the same job - to provide passengers with an appreciation for the sights and history of Pittsburgh.

The fleet travels Pittsburgh’s three rivers - the Allegheny, the Monogahela, and the Ohio. Each one provides sweeping views of the Pittsburgh skyline and a sneak peek into this city’s storied history. Passengers on the fleet can choose from a variety of tours, from dinner cruises to kids’ cruises and everything in between.

If you’re traveling with children, the one-hour sightseeing tour is a great choice. This cruise takes passengers on a one-hour ride through the rivers while the captain provides the “interesting facts, tales and lore that make Pittsburgh so special.” Even if you’ve got a little one that’s too young to enjoy this narration, the novelty of being on a boat and the interesting sights is sure to provide enough entertainment for a 60-minute cruise.

If you’re less interested in history and lore and more interested in a way to entertain the kiddos, you can also hop aboard a Trolls, Paw Patrol, Princess, or Superhero Cruise where you’ll sail the rivers with some of your favorite characters. Kids will get the opportunity to participate in costumed character meet and greets as well as story time and a dance party. For an additional fee, kids can also have their faces painted or get a photo with the characters. These cruises last for two hours.

(If you don't eat on the cruise, you can visit The Hard Rock Cafe, which shares a parking lot, afterward!)

Whether you’re a Pittsburgh native or just visiting, the Gateway Clipper is a great way to see the sights and learn more about The Steel City!

Our work in Baltimore is truly a family affair. Husband and wife, Matt and Katie, work together to head up our ambassador team in Charm City. Katie is a Maryland native and has lived in the state her whole life. She moved to Baltimore in 2007 after graduating from the University of Maryland, College Park with a bachelor's degree in early childhood education. She has been working in the field of early childhood education as a teacher and family coach for the past 12 years. Katie also holds a Masters of Education in Literacy from Loyola University. She is passionate about giving kids and families the knowledge and tools that they need to thrive. Matt grew up in the Highlandtown neighborhood of Baltimore. As a city native, Matt is a great resource on all that the city has to offer. After months of helping Katie explore the city for her role at a Happy Active Family, he decided to put his love of writing to use and officially come on board as an ambassador. Matt and Katie have two girls, ages 5 and 7. They spend their weekends camping, hiking, or exploring other hidden gems in their area. Tap into their insider knowledge by downloading the app today!
