Georgetown's history is tied to the Peabody legacy, and the collection is reflective of its important predecessor.

Another fantastic D.C. library for kids, it seems obvious that Georgetown Neighborhood Library would focus on the history of Georgetown, but it is a pleasant surprise how much attention it pays to the comfort of contemporary Georgetown families.

The beautiful, historic building has a large downstairs section for kids with a large selection. They also have the same storytime series as the other D.C. libraries, plus events that cater to a wide array of kids’ interests. These events showcase comic books, teach video game strategy and design and introduce kids to musical instruments, to name just a few. Check their website to see what they are offering when you visit!

The downstairs children's section is temporarily closed due to Covid, but it will be reopening in due time. In the meantime, there is a very small selection available upstairs, so be sure to check the website for restricted access updates. Metered street parking is available and there is a grassy area for kids to run a bit before or after quiet time.

Need even more outdoor playtime? Dumbarton Oaks Park (with Montrose Park playground nearby) is just a four-minute walk, and well worth the visit anytime you're in Georgetown. Volta park is just 8 minutes the other way and we always have fun playing there too.

Hungry? The library is only about ten minutes from most of our favorite spots to eat in Georgetown, including Chaia Taco, &Pizza, and Sweetgreen. If you're looking for a sweet treat, the famous Georgetown Cupcake is super close and always makes everyone happy.
