“I’m just a bill on capitol hill!” The older kids will enjoy this educational outing and reinforce what they are learning in school about history and government.

The Georgia State Capitol is where it all happens! It is not a stretch to state this historic landmark is the most famous architecturally and historically significant building in all of Atlanta. It was designed to resemble the Neoclassical architectural style of the United States Capitol, in Washington, D.C and was completed in 1889.  Not only does it house the offices of the governor, lieutenant governor, and secretary of state; but its chambers are the meeting place of the Georgia State Senate and Georgia House of Representatives. There is an extensive museum near the rotunda representing the natural and cultural history of Georgia. True to the state’s origin, there is an extensive collection of Native American artifacts.  Learn about the state’s abundant animal life, geography, and topography. The portraits of governors, statues of famous Georgians, and historic flags from many wars are displayed throughout. A great time to visit is January through April when law makers are in session. The museum is free and a great complement to a guided/self-guided tour.
