Salt and Straw was another place that came highly recommended to me during my time in Portland.  Known for their delectable homemade ice cream and great location, it’s worth checking out. The first thing I learned upon entering this cozy and adorable ice cream shop, was that they also have several vegan options on top of their regular dairy choices, and they are DELICIOUS.  The staff were incredibly charming and encouraged everyone in the line to try as many flavors as they wanted to, eager to share such magic with their patrons. They spoke candidly about their personal favorites and engaged in casual conversation as well. There were enough staff members that several people were able to be helped at a time, and the menu was so descriptive, my mouth was watering before I even laid eyes on the ice cream.  As I mentioned earlier, I am not even a vegan, but the “Cloudforest Chocolate Hazelnut Cookies and Cream” flavor was so decadent, I went all in on two scoops. As I paid, the cashier offered me friendly advice on where I could find kid friendly places before wishing me a great day! Consider stopping by Mud Puddles Toy and Book Store after you finish your ice cream!

Having been surrounded by children her entire life in her mother's daycare, she always had a strong affinity for kids. She moved to the mountains of Jackson Hole after graduating to coach for the local Kayak Club during the summers and nanny in the winters. Becoming a part of the Happy Active Family team felt like the perfect collision of her passion for building strong community bonds and encouraging an outdoor lifestyle.
